It’s almost time for the kids to break up for school meaning some of us are just now putting together ideas for things to do with the kids this summer. And, if you’re from Yorkshire this one is always a crowd pleaser.
But, it seems that other travel companies are cottoning on and featuring them in the best of lists. This time it’s Scarborough, which has been a holiday destination for us as long as I can remember. As CN Traveller has labelled Yorkshire’s top seaside town the “most beautiful seaside resort in England”.

As the oldest seaside town in Britain it’s definitely earned its stripes. And offers up all the hallmarks of a classic British Summer. CN Traveller described the North Yorkshire seaside town saying: “The dramatic castle occupies the headland which separates the two main bays steep cliffs stretching away in both directions. The old town ascends the slope to the castle in a maze of crooked streets, with buildings dating back to Tudor times.”
Although, Scarborough Castle has always been a pull for visitors, we think Scarborough has even more to offer than people realise. Starting with its food & drink scene with some fabulous restaurants on offer. Number one on our list is and will always be the little gem that is Embers.
Chef Dan uses his Yorkshire rots to create modern British dishes with an international twist using exciting seasonal foods sourced locally. Transforming them with the smokey chargrills from the wood-fired oven. Expect incredible flavourful dishes that will leave you satisfied. Make sure you book to avoid disappointment as this place gets booked up fast.
If you’re looking for fish & chips then it has to be Lifeboat Fish Bar. After all, you can’t head to the seaside without having fish & chips. And, this Scarborough fish & chips restaurants always tops the list of best places to eat. Located on the south bay they serve up traditional fish & chips with generous portions, the family-run spot offers cod or haddock coated in a golden, crips batter.
Last year, Conde Nast named is the best seaside resort in the UK, and it seems that more and more people are catching on to the gem that is Scarborough.
