A celebrated pub in Sheffield has garnered recognition for serving one of the finest Sunday roast dinners in the UK. Identified as the city’s favored roast destination in a recent study, Church – Temple of Fun, owned by Bring Me The Horizon frontman Oliver Sykes, stands out as Sheffield’s premier spot for this classic meal.
The acknowledgment stems from a survey conducted by the cost-comparison platform Idealo. As per the findings, Sheffield not only offers top-notch yet affordable roast dinner experiences but also stands out for its commendable vegan dining options.
The interior of Church itself is a sight to behold: a mix of South American religious iconography and the fittings you’d typically find in an arcade. The inspiration came from a visit to Brazil when Sykes spotted a games-style bar and wanted to replicate it back home. A games-bar style venue features a combination of classic arcade games and a bar that generally features beers from local and overseas microbreweries.

ReOn the menu, there’s two vegan roast options which cost £15.95 each. One is a homemade ‘beef wellington, layers of puff pastry, Dijon, savoy cabbage and mushroom duxelle around asoned “beef”. Served on a creamy squash puree, with creaty mash, buttered cabbage, seasoned roasted carrots and parsnips. Accompanied by roasted rosemary and garlic red skin-on potatoes, with a Yorkshire pudding, a stuffing ball and our famous Hendos gravy.

The other is a spiced carrot and spinach, layered with an orange and ginger spiced marmalade wrapped in puff pastry served on a creamy squash puree, with creamy mash, buttered cabbage, seasoned roasted carrots and parsnips. Accompanied by roasted rosemary and garlic red skin-on potatoes, with a Yorkshire pudding, a stuffing ball and our famous Hendos gravy.
Discussing their Sunday roast dinner study, Katy Phillips, senior brand and communications manager at Idealo, said: “The most important aspect of a roast is, of course, the taste, but everyone looks for something a bit different. Choice is abundant across the UK, so we wanted to help find the best spots in the biggest cities for those on a roast hunt or just wanting to try their best local Sunday lunch — whether your priority is affordability, luxury, tradition or modern flavours.”
