Winter is a time to hibernate, watch films and wait for the cold weather to pass, right? Wrong. It’s the perfect weather to get out and explore what Yorkshire has to offer. And this stunning winter trail in Yorkshire has been named one of the best to enjoy by adventure experts, Blacks. So, grab your hiking boots and get out on an adventure.
This sensational season, Blacks has reached out to its adventurous community to hear about the best winter hikes to enjoy for those wanting to head outdoors this season. Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales was named in the list by the outdoor experts as the Dales ‘lends itself to winter photography’ according to Wendy McDonnell, who recommends the circular walk from the National Park Centre at Aysgarth in Wensleydale that takes in three flights of waterfalls.

A popular route for Wordsworth, Turner and Ruskin, the 6-mile route stops by Cauldron Falls in West Burton as well both painted by the well-known British painter, Turner, in 1816. The walk should take up to 2 – 3 hours if you’re stopping to admire the view and take photos, so be aware that the winter sun sets a lot earlier and you don’t want to be caught in the dark.
The Dales features alongside other areas of the UK in the list, including Snowdonia and the Peak District.
