Two Yorkshire cities have been named in the top 10 friendliest places to live in the UK. And, it’s no surprising given that Yorkshire folk are the friendliest around. When you live in a place as beautiful as God’s Own Country, you tend to be in a good mood (most of the time anyway), with rolling hills, lakes, waterfalls and three National Parks – it was some much on offer for those visiting.
The list is in no particular order, but the first to be featured is York. The historic city with its winding medieval streets and Gothic cathedral is popular with tourists and residents alike. Thousands flock to the North Yorkshire spot each year to venture down the likes of The Shambles and walk the walls before heading to one of its many 350+ pubs ,bars and restaurants.

The list said that: “Surveys say locals go out of their way to be friendly and greet strangers with warmth and smiles, whether in shops or on the street. The fact that York also has a low crime rate and is consistently ranked as a great place to raise a family means there’s a sense of safety here too, which is no doubt a reason why locals are so welcoming to out-of-towners.”
