Two Yorkshire Farm Shops Named As The Best In Britain

Two farm shops in Yorkshire have been acknowledged as among the best in Britain, having been shortlisted for both Large Farm Shop of the Year and Small Farm Shop of the Year. Both Farmer Copley’s in West Yorkshire and Cedarbarn Farm Shop and Cafe are one of just three contenders in their respective categories.

Furthermore, Cedarbarn has secured finalist positions in not just one but three categories – Farm Café/Restaurant of the Year, as well as Farm Shop Butchery of the Year, in a prestigious competition organised by the Farm Retail Association. The awards take place on Tuesday 5 March at Holiday Inn Peterborough West.

Originally starting as a pick-your-own strawberries caravan nearly 28 years ago, the Cedarbarn Farm Shop has flourished into a successful establishment, featuring a farm shop, café, and even a miniature railway. The majority of its produce comes directly from their farm and is meticulously prepared by hand on-site.

The café takes pride in its dedication to crafting traditional, nourishing meals using the freshest ingredients available, which includes homegrown fruits, vegetables, and the beef and lamb raised by co-founder Karl Avison on their expansive 200-acre family farm.

Farmer Copley’s is renowned in the area for its fantastic cafe and farm shop as well as its popular events that run throughout the year. One of its biggest events is it’s pumpkin picking, which has just passed. It’s a must if you’re looking for great family events.

Chair of the Farm Retail Association Emma Mosey said: “Farm shops and farmers markets continue to be the nation’s retail beacons for sourcing fresh and nutritious produce with low food miles, from passionate and knowledgeable often family-run, independent businesses.

“It is right that we celebrate the crucial role that these invaluable food and drink retailers play at the heart of the communities they serve. Running throughout our finalists are inspiring stories of innovation, consistent quality produce and customer service excellence.”
