12 Of The Cosiest Pubs In Whitby To Visit This Autumn

These are some of the best pubs in Whitby to visit all year round, but especially when the colder months roll in. The nights are getting darker and the days a little nippier, and we can’t wait. For such a small spot, it’s full of traditional ale houses that make a great spot to get cost in those colder months.

We love autumn when the leaves start to brown and Yorkshire takes on a new character. Full of cosy pubs with warm fires, Whitby the perfect place to be in the colder months and we intend to carry on exploring. Whitby, known for its fish and chips, glorious abbey and infamous 199 steps is the perfect example of how a seaside town is inviting all year round.

1. The Little Angel

An example of the great community pubs in Whitby, The Little Angel pub is a favourite with locals and visitors alike and is a CAMRA multi-award-winning cask ale pub. It has nine fine cask ales on draught and a selection of lagers.

It screams traditional cosy pub vibes, and has a range of live entertainment along with their famous jukebox withover 4 million songs where you can while the hours away in a warm pub whilst the autumn cold blows a gale outside.

The pub does a cask ale day on Wednesdays where cask ales are £3.20 a pint and also a cask ale card where you can get a free pint after ten (not that you have to do that all in one sitting). They also have Lady Luck Brewery in the old kitchen where they produce some great brews from session blondes to whiskey infused porters. 18 Flowergate, Whitby YO21 3BA

2. The Endeavour

Another classic traditional pub with a roaring open fire in Whitby, The Endeavour can be found overlooking the River Esk on the east side of Whitby. The dog friendly pub serves a fine selection of cask and craft ales along with gins, wines, prosecco and much more.

In fact, they have over 25 gins ranging from new craft gins, to the classic Hendricks, Bombay and more. You’ve heard of bring your own booze, well this pub has a ‘bring your own fish & chips’ police to negate that fact they don’t have a kitchen. 3. The Station Inn – Pubs In Whitby

Found in the heart of whitby, this North Yorkshire pub prides itself on its selection of real ales and welcoming atmosphere. The Station Inn won Cleveland CAMRA pub of the year 2011 and has featured in the Good Beer Guide since 2009.

The Whitby pub has a great ambience with roaring open fires as well as live music to keep you entertained every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday night. There is always something going on from Folk Week to Goth Weekend, so you’re sure to stumble of the streets into some kind of fun, which is just what you want on those colder autumn nights. 4. The Black Horse

One of the tinier pubs in Whitby, this traditional two bar pub is found in the heart of Whitby’s old town serving up award-winning cask ales from local and national breweries. As well as that they have a range of craft beers, a large gin selection, rum and wine along with a Yorkshire Tapas menu.

The small pub is dog friendly and even as a treat or two for your pub when you visit for pint. The Black Horse Inn dates back to the 1600s and is believed to be one of the oldest public service bars in Europe having been installed after its invention in America in the 1870s. It was also declared a building of Special Architectual and Historical interest back in 1973. 91 Church St, Whitby YO22 4BH

5. Whitby Brewery

Quite the newby on the block, Whitby Brewery was crated back in 2013 and the brewery itself was built by hand by a local Whitby craftsman. It now brews a range of cracking Yorkshire ales and has quickly gained a great local reputation being served in a number of pubs, bars, restaurants and shops in Whitby.

The taproom is located next to the brewery and the town’s historic abbey on a cliff overlooking the sea. They serve up some incredible beers along with tasty pizza slices. East Cliff, Whitby YO22 4JR

6. The Middle Earth

In a stunning harbourside location, this is one of the pubs in Whitby that’s perfect especially on the coldest of days when you can chill by a roaring fire. The dog friendly pub also has a newly renovated downstairs bar, and both the pub and the bar are well stocked with a superb beer, wine and spirit selection making it one of Whitby’s most popular pubs. 25-26 Church St, Whitby YO22 4AE

7. The Board Inn

A traditional pub found at the bottom of the 199 steps, and just a stones throw away from Whitby beach. It’s a local family-run establishment in the heart of Whitby and offers an amazing place to enjoy a drink and a bite to eat. The drinks list is extensive and you can enjoy fantastic views over Whitby harbour.

The panoramic views can be enjoy with you little pooch with you as well as the bar area is also dog friendly, which is perfect. 125 Church Street Whitby YO22 4DE

8. The Duke of York – Pubs In Whitby

One of the best pubs in Whitby, and found at the bottom of the 199 steps also. The Duke of York is a historic pub in Whitby that can be traced back to the doomsday book.

It was then an ale house and a pub for 150 years. Not only will you enjoy a pint at this little ale house, you’ll enjoy a piece of history with historic pictures, memorabilia of Whitby along with a great range of real ales. 124 Church St, Whitby YO22 4DE

9. The Dolphin Hotel

Located in Whitby, right near Whitby Beach a, The Dolphin Hotel has a fantastic bar and a terrace with incredible harbour views. It became a public house back in 1823, the pub has six local and national beers along with real ciders and welcomes doggos also. Bridge St, Whitby YO22 4BG

The Fleece is another one of Whitby’s cosy pubs with a real fire creating a snug environment where you can enjoy a nice drink. The pub is dog friendly so you can take your pooch for a chilled drink. The Elsinore, is one of the pubs in Whitby that has that old-fashioned charm. It’s known as a great traditional pub with character and charm and is a busy pub, popular with locals and visitors alike. It has a great atmosphere with live music played. You’ll be drawn in by the music, but will stay for the beers. 12. The Golden Lion – Pubs In Whitby

If you’re looking for a lively night with a twist, The Golden Lion is traditional Irish pub located in the heart of Whitby. It’s known as Whitby’s oldest existing pub dating back to 1714. And, as you’d expect it has tons of character that goes along with that accolade. Who doesn’t love whiling away a rainy day with a pint of Guinness? Meet you at the bar, your round… It may be an Irish pub, but I’m still a Yorkshireman after all.
