This York Shambles Chocolatier Serves Up Viral Chocolate Shots

If you take a stroll down York’s Shambles in this cold weather, you’ll want to stop at this quaint little chocolate shop that’s been going viral for its indulgent chocolate shots. Even better, the melted chocolate is served in edible chocolate cups. Monk Bar Chocolatiers, located on the iconic street, offers more than 60 varieties of luxury handmade chocolates, making it a must-visit for anyone with a sweet tooth.

The medieval street Shambles, located in York City centre, is known for resembling (and some say inspiring) the famous Diagon Alley from J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter series. The cobbled street is full of great independents and plenty of nods to the world of magic and wizards. And, also found on the street is this lovely little chocolate shop that’s been doing the rounds on social media due to its chocolate shots.

When you step onto this famous street in search of a much-needed, calorie-laden treat for the cold weather, you’re immediately met by overhanging buildings and the hum of people soaking up the character of the historic surroundings. That atmosphere alone feels like part of the experience, adding to the charm of this now-viral offering. It’s a street that celebrates individuality, welcoming quirky shops like this with open arms.

So, we had to go try the York chocolate cups for ourselves. And, we were pleasantly surprised. A £3 quid a pop, they were a warming treat perfect for these colder months. The delicious creation is served out of their Shambles shop and consists of a chocolate cup filled with warm, melted chocolate from their own chocolate tap.

We so wanted this to be a viral fad, but these are so worth the money and a great little energy boost when you’re out and about exploring the historic city of York. They were so silky smooth and rich that we could have had more.

Monk Bar Chocolatiers, home to the York chocolate cups, are an artisan chocolate shop established in 1999, originally opening in the shadow of Monk Bar, one of the city’s historic gates. The Shambles shop at No.7 opened in 2002, with the Monk Bar shop now closed.

All chocolates are made on the premises in small batches using luxurious couverture chocolate, which contains extra cocoa butter for a smoother texture, and only the finest ingredients. If you’re ever in York, we recommend giving them a visit and trying these York chocolate cups.
