We’ve dipped! Yorkshire has gone from being voted the sexiest accent in the UK (which is a fact) to not even making the top 3, which is just ridiculous in our book – what do you reckon? In a list created by Enjoy Travel, the Yorkshire accent made the top 10 at least, but was beaten to the top spot.
Sean Bean, Jodie Whittaker, Alex Turner, Jarvis Cocker – need we say more? These top-tier sexy voices have been knocked off by the Essex accent, Irish accent and Galswegian who came first, second and third.
There’s a huge 56 recognised accents across the UK and Ireland – so for the Yorkshire accent to reach the top 10 is a feat in itself – even if we should really be in the number one spot .Writing about the Yorkshire accent the travel website wrote: ‘Yorkie is one of England’s most-loved accents, where words are shortened and ‘the’ and ‘to’ is lost altogether. Case in point? “I’m chuffed t’bits!”
Unsure why it’s not quite seen as a Yorkshire accent, but Leeds also featured in the list in 17th place as the website said: “More distinctive than the general Yorkshire accent, you’ll hear people dropping the ‘h’ and overindulging the ‘u’ in Leeds.”
Middlesborough came in at 26th, Bradford in 27th, Sheffield 31st and the Hull accent almost in last place at 48th place. Having an East Yorkshire accent myself, the Hull third to last really hurt. But, what can you do?
