22 Yorkshire Athletes Set To Compete In Paris Olympics 2024

The Euros and Wimbledon are behind us and we are looking forward to the Paris 2024 Olympics, which are just a matter of days away. This Games marks the first time being held in Europe since London 2012. In celebration, we thought we’d highlight some of the Yorkshire olympians taken part over the next few weeks.

The opening ceremony will kick things off on Friday marking the official start of the Games with the actual sporting action beginning today. There will be a total of 10,500 athletes representing 206 countries including Team GB.

Check out some of the Yorkshire athletes taking park in Paris 2024 Olympics below:

Caden Cunningham, Huddersfield

The 21-year-old will be representing his country in the taekwondo. He took gold at the 2024 European Championships and is now focused on an Olympic medal.

Charlotte Fry, Scarborough

Establishing herself as one of the best dressage competitors in the world with double gold at the 2022 World Championships, the 27-year-old will be representing Team GB in Equestrian Dressage.

Emile Cairess, Bradford

Emile Cairess is the second-fastest British marathon runner of all time and will make his Olympic debut in Paris 2024. The 26-year-old will be run the marathon for Team GB after finishing third at the 2024 London Marathon in a brilliant time of 2:06:46.

Georgie Brayshaw, Leeds

15 years after a serious horse riding accident placed her in a coma, Georgie has her eyes on an Olympic medal. The 30-year-old recently broke the world record for 5km on the RP3 rowing machine with other accolades including world and European gold with the women’s quadruple sculls squad.

George Mills, Harrogate

Representing Team GB in the 1500m and 5000m in the Paris 2024 Olympics, George is son of the professional footballer Danny Mills. The 25-year-old will be looking to hit the podium in the next few weeks.

Hamish McArthur, York

Representing Team GB in Sport Climbing, Hamish was described as a child prodigy, and joined the GB senior climbing team at 16 and placed third on the world stage at 19. Crowned double world junior champion in 2021, the York lad will be one to watch this year.

Harry Hepworth, Leeds

Leeds-born Harry, looked to have his athletics career cut short aged five when he was diagnosed with Legg–Calvé–Perthes disease. But, driven by the desire to do a backflip he returned three yers later. Playing a part in team silver at the 2024 European Championships his Olympic debut at Paris 2024 looks promising.

Jacob Fincham-Dukes, Harrogate

Harrogate-born, he’s met the Olympic standard with his personal best of 8.20m for the long jump at the Texas Invitational and looks set build on fourth place at June’s European Championships.

Jack Laugher, Harrogate

Jack Laugher MBE already has a full set of Olympic medals and is hoping to add to his haul at Paris 2024.

James Wilby, York

Born in Glasgow, but grew up in York, Wilby was a crucial part of the Team GB’s Tokyo swimming relay success. And, will hope to bring home some more medals at his second olympics.

Joe Litchfield, Pontefract

Looking to bag his own medal after chasing brother Max, Joe has had his own success with an impressive 2021 European Championships in Budapest, coming away with three golds and a silver as well as a fifth-place finish in the 200m individual medley event. The 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, he helped England to two silvers in both the 4x100m and 4x200m freestyle events.

Keely Hodgkinson

Keely Hodgkinson became a household name the second she crossed the finish line to claim a sensational silver at her maiden Olympics in Tokyo. In doing so, Hodgkinson broke Dame Kelly Holmes’ previous 800m record which had stood since 1995. She’ll be hoping to upgrade her medal in Paris.

Leah Crisp, Wakefield

Leah, the 10km marathon swimmer finished 17th in Doha to manage a place on the Team GB. She’s set to take to Paris as Team GB’s sole female marathon swimmer.

Lizzie Deignan, Otley

One of the most accomplished British cyclists in history, Lizzie Deignan, continues her Olympic journey at Paris 2024. She previously secured a silver medal in the road race at the London 2012 Olympics.

Louie Hinchliffe, Sheffield

Everyone’s favourite race, Hinchliffe has been crowned British champion and will run the 100m at Paris 2024. He become the first European to win the prestigious NCAA title over 100m. And ran 9.95 seconds in the process, a first legal sub-10 seconds time.

Lois Toulson, Huddersfield

Lois Toulson’s Paris Olympics will be her third Olympic Games. And, with world, European and Commonwealth medals to her name, she’ll be aiming to complete her set with a podium in the French capital.

Max Burgin, Halifax

The Halifax lad, coached by dad Ian, has beecome UK champion and has a personal best of 1:43.52 in 800m – putting him fourth in the British all-time list. He’s definitely one to watch on his debut at this Paris Olympics.

Max Litchfield, Pontefract

Max is set to travel to a third Games this summer. Setting a new British record in the men’s 400m Individual Medley at the Aquatics GB Swimming Championships on Thursday 4 April the 29-year-old will be looking for a podium spot.

Ollie Wood, Wakefield

Breaking a world record aged 18 isn’t bad going – is it? And after making his Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 finishing 7th with men’s pursuit team, Wood and team took the win in the world title in 2022 as well as back to back wins in the men’s madison in 2022 and 2023. Wood is hoping to continue his success in his second Olympics in Paris.

Sam Dickinson, York

Looking to take home a medal in the triathlon at Paris 2024, Sam has finished in the top ten every time in his six completed races of 2024, Sam has finished in the top-ten every time with victory at 2024 Europe Triathlon Cup Kielce.

Scott Lincoln, Northallerton

Hoping to hit the podium, Scott is a former bricklayer by trade before finishing 28th in the Olympics in Tokyo and has seen plenty of success since. Winning bronze at the Commonwealth in 2022 and the same at the European Games in 2023 he’ll be hoping for a medal at the Paris 2024.

Tom Pidcock, Leeds

One of Great Britain’s most talented multi-discipline cyclists, Tom Pidcock, is heading to his second Olympic Games. Pidcock stands out, nominated for two cycling disciplines: defending his mountain bike title from Tokyo 2020 and competing in the men’s road race.
