Yorkshire Coast Towns Expecting RAF Aircraft Flyovers This Summer

Two Yorkshire coastal towns have been included in the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight summer schedule, which will see historic aircraft performing flyovers across the UK.

The BBMF’s mission is to maintain priceless aircraft from Britain’s aviation history in airworthy condition to commemorate those who lost their lives in service to the country, while also inspiring future generations through the modern-day Royal Air Force.

The flight operates five Spitfires, two Hurricanes, a Lancaster, a C47 Dakota and two Chipmunk aircraft. The Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is based at RAF Coningsby.

A range of public and military events across the country will feature appearances from the aircraft between May and September, with flyovers planned throughout the summer.

The first Yorkshire event on the 2026 schedule will be Armed Forces Day 2026 in Scarborough on 27 June, one of the seaside town’s most popular annual events. The second Yorkshire appearance will take place during Blue Light Weekend 2026 in Withernsea on Sunday 9 August 2026.
