6 Yorkshire Fish & Chip Shops Named In The Top 60 In The UK

There’s nothing us Yorkshire folk love more than a good chippy tea, and living so close to the coast, we are spoilt for choice with decent fish & chips. Whether you’re heading to the coast for some fish & chips or to your local you’re rarely disappointed with the delicious hearty meal that is great any time of year.

And, it’s that time of year when the best fish & chips shops in the UK are named by the Fry Awards. and this year five of Yorkshire’s establishments have been named in the top 60 fish & chip shows in the UK.

Croft Street Fisheries

The list includes 50 takeaways and 10 sit-down restaurants. A score of 96 per cent or greater was required for the winning takeaway, and a score of 95 per cent or higher was required for the winning restaurants.

Including in the list of Yorkshire fish & chip shops are Auckley Friery, Doncaster, South Yorkshire; Hill Top Village Fisheries, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire; Croft Street Fisheries, Leeds, Yorkshire; Land & Sea, Sowerby, North Yorkshire; Towngate Fisheries, Idle, West Yorkshire.

There is no official winner for the awards, just an acknowledgement of top-quality fish & chip shops with top-quality standards.

Fry Awards competition organiser Reece Head said: “We’re so pleased to announce this year’s winners,’ says.

“The awards recognise and celebrate the hard work, passion and dedication that these operators put into running their businesses.

“It’s been a tough couple of years for the industry, in particular for restaurants that have had to deal with closures, but operators continued to adapt, motivate their workforce and invest in new equipment and systems that have seen them come out the other side stronger and in a better position.’
