1. Haworth Steam Brewing Company

First stop should be at the village’s very own microbrewery – Haworth Steam Brewing Company. The quaint watering hole is full of character and charm and a community spot for villagers, a resting post for visitors, and refers to itself as ‘a place easy to find but hard to leave, where time stands still’ and we’d have to agree. The family owned pub is the place to be serving up such ales as:

  • By’Eck Pale Ale

  • T’owd Lad Best Bitter,
  • Gundog

These are alongside guest ales, ciders, and spirits, including small-batch gins. So, if you want a traditional drinking spot, a welcoming atmosphere, and delicious food, then head down to the Haworth Steam Brewing Company

3. The Black Bull

best pubs in Haworth

Arguably the most iconic pub in Haworth village, due to its connections with a rather famous family (I’m sure you can guess). Located at the top of Main Street, The Black Bull was a favourite drinking spot of Bramwell Brontë, the brother of the literary sisters. He was a regular visitor to the pub and was known to be an entertainer of locals and travellers alike.

The pub has also appeared on our screen in the BBC drama ‘To Walk Invisible ‘, which told the story of Bramwell and his family. Inside, you can still find his original masonic seat from the 18th century, when the pub was home to the Lodge of the Three Graces.

Today, it is a wonderful place to eat, drink, and sleep. Their menu takes inspiration from local and international recipes, with dishes ranging from local sausage and mash to Greek gyros and crispy Thai beef. If you want to call in for a light bite, they also do a selection of sandwiches, flatbreads, and teas and coffees. The pub is also a Bridgehouse Brewery Pub and is one of the only places in the world where you can enjoy a Bridgehouse Brontë beer.

Looking to stay in Haworth overnight? Well, the pub offers bed and breakfast in their new refurbished rooms, decorated to be in keeping with Haworth’s traditional rural roots. Also, you’ll often be able to enjoy live music on the outside terrace, which overlooks the picturesque Main Street.

4. Writers’ Bloc

A bar that is highly in keeping with Haworth’s village’s literary history. Writers’ Bloc is where ‘stories are made’ over delicious cocktails, fantastic small plates, and fresh Italian coffee. Once you step inside, you’ll find a stylish bar that blends timeless charm with modern edge. It is a great place to relax, connect, inspire, and create unforgettable memories.

From their kitchen, they serve rustic Italian pizza, Italian-inspired small plates and comfort food. Behind the bar, they offer everything from locally brewed beer to their exceptional spirits range, Drapers England, all distilled in the Yorkshire Dales.

They also offer a ‘rather novel’ afternoon tea where you can eat your way through a literary great. You get a choice of a house cocktail or prosecco, two light, fluffy scones, fresh strawberries and jam, and Cornish clotted cream, presented in a classic work of fiction.

Calling all bookworms! Writers’ Bloc holds a book club on the last Wednesday of every month. Here you can meet like-minded souls who love literature. You can chat, eat, and drink while discussing some of the greatest works, all in the wonderful atmosphere of this incredible bar.

Surrounding the pub are incredible views of the Worth Valley, which can be enjoyed in the beer garden on those warmer days. If the weather is a bit nippy, then you can sit beside their roaring log stoves.

The pub has the feel of a proper, traditional village pub and is enjoyed by visitors and locals alike. You are guaranteed a warm welcome, fantastic cask ales, and hearty home-cooked food.
