All Creatures Great and Small fans were ecstatic at the announcement of Callum Woodhouse’s return for the fifth series of the hit Channel 5 series that follows the tales of James Herriot in the Yorkshire Dales. But, where was Woodhouse in the fourth series?
His character was helping out the war effort of World War II, but actor Woodhouse was getting stuck into a different role than his cheeky and affable character Tristan, starring in a horror film set in WWII. Directed by Mike Wiluan, the film follows a Japanese ship that’s transporting prisoners of war to occupied territories as slave labour – a far cry away from the sleep Yorkshire Dales.
Callum reshared an update on the film to Instagram that announced the terrifying films release. Director Wiluan’s post read: “Coming soon. To a swamp near you.” The image in the post featured a terrifying creature with Woodhouse and follow cast member Dean’s character’s holding weapons.
The synopsis to the film reads: “After being torpedoed by allied submarines, a Japanese soldier and a British POW are stranded on a deserted island, but soon discover they are not alone. They are being hunted by a ferocious mythological creature, the Orang Ikan, a human-fish hybrid. Unable to communicate in each other’s language, the two mortal enemies must come together to survive the unknown.”
Whilst we look forward to watching Woodhouse in his upcoming film, we can’t wait to see him in this next series. All Creatures Great and Small is one of Channel 5’s top shows with series 4 seeing 4.4 million viewers tune in to enjoy a piece of the action with the audience growing throughout the series. And, we aren’t surprised. The feel good community feel to the show is something that is missing in society – and people really connect to the stories of Herriot’s characters.
Announcing the show’s return for two more series back in February, Paul Testar, Commissioning Editor, Drama, Channel 5 and Paramount+ said: “We’re so pleased that All Creatures Great and Small will be returning to Channel 5 for two more series. The show has captured the hearts of our audiences and we are committed to bringing even more of James Herriot’s unforgettable stories to our viewers. We can’t wait to share this next chapter.”
