Lockdown has had countless negative impacts on our lives, from mental health to restrictions on travel. One small positive from the whole situation is the country’s new appreciation for the beauty found right on our doorstep. The rolling hills of the Yorkshire Dales, the beautiful coastline, our amazing lakes and waterfalls, have seen visitors flocking God’s Own Country in record numbers since restrictions were lifted.
One of Yorkshire’s iconic walks made it on the list of the 50 most beautiful walks in the world, which is no surprise to us. The Cleveland Way named one of best walks, which came in 16th place, is a 109-mile walk that showcases some of the most beautiful scenery of the Yorkshire coast.
The Cleveland Way has such highlights as the idyllic fishing villages of Staithes and Runswick Bay and iconic seaside resorts such as Saltburn-by-the-sea – and is something that everyone should experience.
Research by outdoor sports specialist Zalando, searched the walks hashtag to reveal how many images were associated with the route. They divided it by the number of miles the walk covers, which found the walks that had the most photos taken per mile. The Cleveland way was voted one of the best place in the world to walk.
According to Zalando, online searches for the best hikes has risen by 89% when comparing it to searches from 2019.
Zalando retail manager Taeeun Lee said about the research: “international travel has largely been off the menu, many have come to look closer to home for a getaway.”
“As the data shows, the UK has many, many options for those wanting to rediscover the great outdoors, so if you want to get out and see some natural beauty in the UK, it’s really easy to do so.”
