The East Yorkshire Insta-Cafe From This Year’s ‘The Apprentice’

Yorkshire is dominating this year’s The Apprentice, and we’re hardly surprised if we’re perfectly honest. We’re a region filled with innovation – and that certainly doesn’t stop with Yorkshire puddings and steam trains. Turns out we’re pretty good at Instagrammable dessert cafes, too… Or, at least last year’s winner Harpreet Kaur and this year’s contestant Megan Hornby are.

Previously known as The Candy Shop and located on the popular Newland Avenue in Hull, Club Candy is a trend-forward cafe aimed at those with a bit of a sweet tooth – serving up tons of delicious treats for guests of all ages to enjoy.

Battling it out for the coveted £250,000 investment from Lord Alan Sugar, Megan Hornby will compete to help take Club Candy to the next level, but we must say, it seems like she’s done a pretty good job growing the business all on her own.

Starting life during lockdown just two years ago, Club Candy quickly grew from a straightforward sweet shop to an Insta-worthy cafe bar, in a bid to keep up with consumer demands and current trends.

Today, the business has well and truly branched out from its humble sweet shop beginnings, serving photogenic milkshakes, candy-themed cocktails, delectable desserts, and even burgers.

The venue has become a dining destination in its own right, with not only fantastic options for lunch, but a varied burger, fried chicken, and loaded fries menu that’s perfect for mate dates, too – particularly when accompanied by the venue’s extensive cocktail menu.

Cocktails are all inspired by the bar and restaurant’s sweet shop beginnings, with highlights including the Biscoff Heaven, Perfect Parma Violet, and the White Chocolate Jazzie.

The star of the show for proper sweet tooth lovers, however, is Club Candy’s sugary afternoon tea, which consists of chocolate croissants, sandwiches, brownies, cookie dough bites, strawberries, dipping sauces, and plenty of sweets. Reckon you could combat a dessert afterward? If it were me, I’d certainly be tempted by an extra bit of cookie dough, I won’t lie.

Owner Megan believes she’s hit the sweet spot with her niche (pun intended), and hopes to take it national should she win Lord Alan Sugar’s investment.

Megan is up against fellow Yorkshire lass Shannon Martin, who owns Dotty Bridal, this year, as well as Bradley Johnson – a North Yorkshireman who’s found success in construction.

Club Candy can be found at 123 Newland Ave, Hull, HU5 2ES.
