A Huge New Food Market Is Opening In Bradford This Summer

It’s been a long road to opening, but after six years of anticipation, Darley Street Market has officially announced its opening date, swinging open the doors on 12th July.

A three-floor market celebrating all things food and drink, Darley Street Market is situated within a 4,000 square metre space that’s set to become a prime city centre location with dining, culture and entertainment on offer.

Two traders have so far been announced, with Bradford-born Northern Monk and Bab Tooma being the first confirmed. Both traders will reside on the top floor of the state-of-the-art venue, with Bab Tooma serving up their well-loved Middle Eastern dishes and Northern Monk boasting a 10-tap bar filled with their craft beers, cocktails and more.

More traders are, of course, set to be announced, however, the first two set the bar high for what to expect from this city-first venue.

The building will consist of three floors: the top floor will be a food hall with a bar, stage, large screens for events and a terrace balcony overlooking the square. The middle floor will be all about fresh produce, with butchers, bakers, delis and more on offer. While the ground floor will be reserved for non-food traders, and will also be home to two cafes which open out onto the market square. The outdoor square will feature a big screen for events, and a cool canopy made of umbrellas for sheltered seating.

Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport said: “We’re very excited to be announcing these two brilliant Bradford success stories as the first of many traders at our new Darley Street Market.

“When we announced Darley Street Market I said I wanted it to represent the ‘Best of Bradford’ and Bab Tooma and Northern Monk certainly do that.

“It’s a real coup to bring such respected businesses into the heart of our city centre and a real statement of intent for our regeneration programme, of which Darley Street Market is a key part.

“Over the coming weeks we will be announcing more traders coming to this new venue ahead of our official opening on 12 July.”

The creation of Darley Street Market marks exciting progress for Bradford, which is currently enjoying City of Culture status with tons of events for the community to enjoy. Darley Street Market will form part of a ‘City Village’, which aims to bring new homes to the centre as part of a sustainable and community-first neighbourhood. The City Village will add newfound vibrance to Bradford, bringing new opportunities for independent businesses to thrive.
