It looks like The Station Inn is set for an exciting new chapter after changing hands for the first time in more than 20 years. Sitting roadside beneath Whernside and perfectly placed for those taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, it remains a favourite stop for walkers and visitors alike.
Located in one of the most stunning parts of the Yorkshire Dales, the pub has been bought by Andrew Hields, owner of Tan Hill Inn, Britain’s highest pub. He also owns the historic Green Dragon Inn, widely regarded as one of the most beautiful pubs in the country, complete with a waterfall hidden behind it.
Licensed around 1879 and built at a similar time to the Ribblehead Viaduct, The Station Inn will become the third addition to Hields’ portfolio. He has built a strong reputation for renovating rooms at his existing venues, hosting popular live events, and preserving the character and charm of historic pubs.
Hields takes over from former owners David and Claire Hobbs and, speaking about his new venture, said: “It is an honour to take ownership of such a Yorkshire landmark from David and Claire, who have done a fabulous job during their time here. Under their ownership, and with a team of excellent staff, The Station Inn has become part of the fabric of the Dales and a beacon of hospitality,” reports the Craven Herald & Pioneer.
Nestled beside the iconic Ribblehead Viaduct on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, The Station Inn is the perfect base for walking the Yorkshire Three Peaks, which include Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent. Whether you’re looking for dog-friendly accommodation in the Yorkshire Dales, a proper pub meal after a day on the fells, or somewhere to watch trains cross the viaduct with a pint of locally brewed ale, you’ve found the right place.
