Ahead of the final series of Yorkshire-filmed Happy Valley, the BBC has released a number of teaser images to get fans excited – and things are looking pretty dark.
Giving viewers a tiny little insight into what’s to come for the show’s third and final series, the photos show Sarah Lancashire returning as Sergeant Catherine Cawood, alongside James Norton as Tommy Lee Royce, and the first look at Siobhan Finneran as Catherine’s sister Clare and Rhys Connah as grandson Ryan.

In the photos, Catherine can be seen with a bloodied nose while presumably at a crime scene, while Tommy can be seen with a brand new look in a prison cell – a sign that Catherine’s brand new case will lead her straight back to Tommy Lee Royce.
The final series will see Catherine on the cusp of retirement, taking on one more case as she continues to battle drug problems in the valley.

The latest BBC teaser for the final instalment reads: “When Catherine discovers the remains of a gangland murder victim in a drained reservoir, it sparks a chain of events that unwittingly leads her straight back to Tommy Lee Royce.
“Her grandson Ryan is now 16 and still living with Catherine, but he has ideas of his own about what kind of relationship he wants to have with the man Catherine refuses to acknowledge as his father. Still battling the seemingly never-ending problem of drugs in the valley and those who supply them, Catherine is on the cusp of retirement.”

While a premiere date for the return of Happy Valley is yet to be announced, it’s confirmed that beloved characters such as Joyce, Shaf, Sledge and Gorkem will return for the last hurrah, alongside a fleet of new characters who’ll help to see the series out with a huge bang.

Happy Valley first premiered on BBC back in 2014 and was last seen on screens in 2016, so fans will be delighted to know that the wait is almost over.
Happy Valley is set in West Yorkshire, and cast and crew have been spotted over the years filming in Calder Valley areas such as Halifax, Hebden Bridge, Sowerby Bridge and Todmorden.
Filming for series three began in Halifax back in January, where Sarah Lancashire was spotted on-set in her iconic uniform.
