Britain’s Oldest Farm Shop Can Be Found Right Here In Yorkshire

It’s hard to believe that Yorkshire is yet to become synonymous with culinary excellence. Seven Michelin Star restaurants. Swaledale beef. Yorkshire puddings. Need I say more?

We’re an underrated mecca for authentic British cuisine, the home of field-to-fork cuisine and even the birthplace of Britain’s first-ever farm shop: Hinchliffe’s – a place where locals can stock up on delicious Yorkshire-grown and reared produce, not only to support the local community but to experience some of the freshest food out there, plucked from our very own back garden.

Found on the outskirts of out-of-town village, Honley, Hinchliffe’s is so much more than the trendy kind of farm shop that’s been popping up here, there and everywhere since Whole Foods dug their clutches into the Millennial generation – and is actually a piece of Yorkshire heritage itself.

First starting out back in 1929, the Hinchliffe’s became local legends within the community, stocking and delivering eggs from their farm via horse and cart and operating a successful butcher’s shop in the village, selling local meat to both the neighbourhood residents and local businesses.

Growing their egg and butchers business over the decades (and eventually rearing their own cattle to meet local demand), Hinchliffe’s found themselves in a unique position in the year of 1974 – opening Britain’s very first farm shop packed full of quality meats, sausages, pies and farm fresh eggs.

Today, the business remains in the Hinchliffe family, and not only serves up some of the freshest food in Huddersfield, but offers delicious, beautifully-presented dishes in their dedicated restaurant, too.

There, at the Rusty Bull, guests can dine on home-reared steaks, homemade pies and more, safe in the knowledge that every dish served is field-to-fork and as fresh as can be.

For those looking to stock up the kitchen, the farm shop is an absolute haven of fresh food, with hand-picked fruits and veggies, farm-reared meats, an in-house bakery, a proper Yorkshire deli counter and even an entire wall filled full of fine wines and Yorkshire beers.

If you can’t be bothered to cook, the team at Hinchliffe’s also freshly makes tons of ‘ready meals’ every single day, that customers can take home and warm up later on. Can’t get anymore convenient than that.

Hinchliffe’s is open daily, and you can find them at Hinchliffe’s Farm, Netherton Moor Road, Netherton, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, HD4 7LE.
