From mulled wine to a variety of British dishes smothered, dipped and drenched in gravy, there’s a lot to love about Christmas. But one of our favourite festive activities in Yorkshire? Ice skating.
There’s something so nostalgic about putting on a pair of those heavily-used and highly uncomfortable skates, and wobbling your way around the rink til you, inevitably, fall on your arse. Make sure you make it to Christmas markets and events as well as the fun ice rinks this winter.
Returning to Yorkshire for 2022, here’s our guide to the best Christmas ice skating experiences to enjoy this year.
1. Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland, York

Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland is finally returning, with its huge outdoor ice rink that’s perfect for family days out.
The largest outdoor ice rink in the North of England, Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland will allow visitors to skate around the huge festive Christmas tree, before enjoying a vintage funfair, a chalet-style cafe, and even Santa’s Grotto.
Returning this November 18th-January 8th, the ice rink will pop up at York Designer Outlet this Christmas. York Designer Outlet, St Nicholas Ave, York YO19 4TA
2. Whitby Ice Rink

Open from 2nd December 2022 until 2nd January 2023 this year we will have a 60% bigger ice rink than in 2021.
Housed in an all-weather marquee and using a real ice rink, right in the centre of town! You will be able to skate in all weather throughout the day with session times from 11am until 8pm (except Christmas Day).
In addition to the ice rink, guests will also get to potter around the town and enjoy the dazzling Christmas lights, as well as stock up on local goodies at the town’s wonderful businesses.
3. Scarborough Ice Rink & The Tipi Venue

Enjoy the perfect festive activity for first dates, play dates, best mates and fun for all the family!
It doesn’t matter if you’ve never tried ice skating before, all abilities are welcome. For safety reasons, children need to be over the age of four to go onto the ice. We have dedicated facilities for visitors with mobility issues, including wheelchair users, with more information available during the booking process. As well as the rink, there will be a bar and roaring fire inside our adjacent large tipi.
The rink is open from daily from 11am to 8pm (closed Christmas Day).
Pre-booking is essential, and you can find out more here.
4. Stockeld Park

Stockeld Park is a popular place to visit around the festive period, with a fun Christmas Adventure taking place every year.
Enjoy large themed outdoor playgrounds, an illuminated ‘enchanted forest’, performances from the Christmas Silver Band, a fun snowflake maze, and, of course, a festive ice rink.
Opening from 19 Nov 2022 – 3 Jan 2023, the rink is suitable for all abilities.
