Consider yourself quite the budding witch or wizard? Then you’ve probably heard of Hole in Wand already – and if not, you might wanna add it to your list of things to do this Halloween.
Launching a brand new spooky trail, especially for Halloween, the magical crazy golf course is harbouring one of York’s most well-known witches, Isabella Billington, and she has quite a few magical spells up her sleeves for those who manage to find her.
In true Hole in Wand style, guests will be faced with a magical adventure, where they’ll need to seek out the missing witch to complete the course – all for the chance to win a magical prize at the end.
At large back in the 1600s, Isabella has returned to York to cause plenty of mischief, and at each hole, you’ll have a letter to find that will help you unravel the mystery of the missing witch, taking you one step closer to your remarkable prize.
And if the prize wasn’t enticing enough, all golfers will be rewarded with The Hole In Wand’s limited edition Blood Orange potion – with an added bit of poison for adult wizards.

Located in the old Patisserie Valerie venue in the city centre, the people behind The Potions Cauldron – Phil Pinder and Ben Fry – have conjured up this extraordinary mini golf course with plenty of fun to be had around every corner. And what’s better? It’s ideal for all the family to enjoy.

As part of the magical trail, guests will have to take on nine magical holes to complete the challenge at this Halloween’s witch hunt. Face down a range of obstacles from bubbling cauldrons, magical portals, and a labyrinth of corridors.

There are plenty of photo ops along the way, too, and not only could you find Isabella Billington by the end of the course, you can also find out if you have the magical powers of a Serpent, Basilisk, Unicorn or Wizard.

After working up an appetite hunting down witches, guests can enjoy the quaint Wizard’s Tavern – where the team serves up numerous tasty potions and nibbles such as Wand Dogs, cauldron cakes and so much more (the best of all being their Butterscotch Beer – their own take on Butterbeer).

Fancy taking on the spooky challenge? The search for Isabella Billington is on until the 31st October, so make sure you get down this half-term and explore!
After an exciting 9-holes and a bite to eat, if you’re wanting more mystery and wonder, guests can head down to the historic cobbled streets of The Shambles and visit their sister venue, The Potion’s Cauldron. The mysterious shop embodies all things magical – bringing an air of Hogsmeade to the medieval city.
