The York ‘Speakcheesy’ Serving Wine & Cheese From A Secret Garden

Cheese. It really is the glue that holds us all together. Gracing our taste buds in all kinds of guises – the gooey, the creamy, the blue – it really is one of the elitist forms of food out there. But before I ramble on in a love letter to the sweet, sweet dairy treat, let me introduce you to Love Cheese.

A cosy bistro-style wine and cheese shop situated on Gillygate, York, Love Cheese can be found just a stone’s throw away from some of the most historical attractions in the Viking city, making for the perfect stop off after a day of exploring.

Stocking cheese in all varieties – the shop that forms the front of the venue is like Willy Wonka’s for cheese lovers, with blue, British, French, Italian, Yorkshire, soft cheeses and so much more up for grabs. And the best part? Being able to try them at their secret ‘Speakcheesy’.

A highly creative name used to describe their quirky little bar and secret garden, guests can step behind the bright and airy shop’s facade, and head into an intimate, snug space designed especially for gorging on delectable cheeses and refreshing wines.

But the secret garden is where the magic really lies, with views of the top of York Minister looming over the quaint space.

Sourcing wines from all corners of the globe, guests can sip on an array of wines ranging from the reds, whites and rosés, to the sparkling and fine wines – all from endless regions such as California, Puglia, Chile, Italy and even Essex.

And if you fancy a nibble to eat while filling your boots on cheese and wine, guests won’t be disappointed with their cheesy menu of pizzas, comforting toasties, charcuterie boards, cheese boards served with crackers and chutneys, and fresh, locally produced bread.

For those just looking to stock up their special selections at home, guests can simply visit the front-of-house shop – which is fully stocked with some incredible wines to suit all preferences, as well as their full range of specially curated cheeses. Naturally, we’d have to recommend the Wensleydale and the Swaledale Blue – repping Yorkshire, and all.
