Located in Sneaton and just a 10-minute drive from Whitby beach, you’ll find one of the North Yorkshire coast’s finest ice cream parlours. Beacon Farm is a family-run ice cream parlour, tea room, and camping site and is a must-stop on your next trip to the seaside.
Beacon Farm started life as a traditional dairy farm. Farmers Michael and Zoe Shardlow began making ice cream in the 1980s as a hobby and soon started selling their high-quality product to the public. In 2004, they took the tough decision to stop dairy farming altogether. However, this decision meant that they could expand their ice cream business while also developing the campsite and tea rooms. The family successfully grew the business into the one we love today, and it is enjoyed by countless visitors every year.
Delicious Ice Cream with Flavours Galore

The ice cream is entirely produced on the farm and made with double cream, fresh whole milk, and carefully selected ingredients to create creamy, rich flavours. The range of ice creams is constantly changing, with over 20 flavours available plus various fruit sorbets. Their ice cream was also award-winning at the Great Yorkshire Show in 2025, showing the high quality of their offering.
Some of the flavours on offer include:
- Vanilla
- Cinder Toffee
- Strawberry
- Chocolate
- Toffee Fudge
- Salted Caramel
- Cappuccino
- Cotton Candy
- Luxury Lemon
- Raspberry Cheesecake
- Rhubarb Crumble
- Mango
- Wild Berry
Fun Fact: During the summer, the farm produces enough ice cream for more than 11,000 cones per day!

Authentic Countryside Tea Rooms
It isn’t all just about ice creams, though they also offer a wide range of breakfasts, lunches, homemade bakes, and light bites in their tea rooms. The tea rooms are located in a beautifully converted traditional barn, giving you a relaxed and authentic countryside feel. The barn also offers a roaring log fire, perfect if you’re visiting in those colder months. In the sunnier months, there is an outside courtyard where you can eat, drink, and enjoy the weather.
Examples of their food and drink options include:
- Full English Breakfast
- Freshly made sandwiches
- Paninis
- Homemade Cakes
- Tea and Coffee
- Homemade Soup
- Ice Cream
Before you ask, yes, of course you can have ice cream for breakfast!
Get in Touch with Nature and Go Camping

If you fancy staying the night at this beautiful location, then Beacon Farm has its own campsite. It is completely family-friendly and has incredible views of Whitby and the surrounding areas. It serves as an ideal base for exploring Whitby and the North Yorkshire Coast.
The campsite is spacious as they deliberately avoid overcrowding their fields. This means you’ll have plenty of space to camp, and if you have children, enough room for them to play and run around safely. The campsite is suitable for tents, caravans, and motorhomes. The best bit is you’ll have access to the ice cream parlour and tea rooms, so this means you’ll have delicious treats, breakfasts, and lunches during your stay.
If you are taking children, then there is plenty to keep them entertained! There is a woodland nature trail, so you can have a peaceful family walk while the children explore nature and seek out the carved wooden sculpture hidden among the trees. There is also a fantastic timber adventure playground with slides, swings, and climbing frames.
Oh, if you have a dog, then they are more than welcome in the campsite, and there is no extra charge to bring them. They just ask that they are on their best behaviour during their stay.
So, next time you are taking a trip on the beautiful North Yorkshire coast and fancy an ice cream, a cup of tea and a sandwich, a picturesque place to rest your head, or a place for the children to run free and play, then you have to visit the delightful Beacon Farm.
