Northern Trail Ending on Yorkshire Coast Named Among World’s Best Walks for 2025

We all know Yorkshire is home to some stunning walks, but it’s always a little sweeter when our corner of the world gets global recognition. And what better accolade than being named one of the world’s best trails? Fancy tackling one of the top-ranked hikes? Of course, you do! The best part? You won’t even need to hop on a flight.

Northern England’s Coast to Coast walk—a legendary trek stretching from Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay on the Yorkshire Coast—has earned a spot among the world’s finest, ranking alongside the Alps and the Appalachian Trail. The AllTrails hiking app selected the 25 best walking trails for 2025. especially a 23km segment from St Bees to Ennerdale, which was mentioned as a highlight of the trail.

Considered a ‘holy grail’ of British trails, the Coast to Coast route has been an official long-distance trail since 1975. It spans over 183 miles and is estimated to take 12-14 days to complete. It secured 13th place in the global rankings for 2025.

AllTrails described it as: “Our favourite segment happens to be right at the start, where you’ll wind through Lake District National Park with sweeping views of the coast before making your way through quaint villages. At just over 14 miles, this segment can be done in a day—leaving you plenty of time to enjoy some fish and chips as a delicious reward.”
