Peaky Blinders Creator Confirms Cillian Murphy Will Return For The Upcoming Movie

Finally, the news we’ve all been waiting for has been announced. Cillian Murphy, who one as Oscar for Best Actor for his lead role in Christopher Nolan’s biopic Oppenheimer, is set to reprise his role as gangster, Tommy Shelby, for the upcoming Peaky Blinders film.

The actor played the Birmingham gangster for six series on the BBC drama Peaky Blinders, which told the story of a Birmingham crime families rise to power, and ran from 2013 to 2022. It’s reported that the film will continue the story from the series end and will begin filming in Birmingham in autumn.

Questions have been asked about the idea of a movie since the series finised almost two years age – and now we have the news that everyone has been waiting for that will see the iconic series take to the big screen.

Speaking about Murphy coming back for the role in an interview with Birmingham World, the shows creator Steven Knight said: “He is definitely is returning for it. We’re shooting it in September just down the road in Digbeth.”

It’s said that the film will follow the family and their stories in the Second World War. Knight revealed in an interview with Esquire magazine: “The film, I know exactly what it’s about. And I know what two stories it’s going to tell. How the story will unfold, I don’t know. What will happen after that, I want that to depend on the film.”

Murphy has made no secret of his love for the Tommy Shelby character, so it’s no surprise that he’s chosen to take up the chance to play him in a movie version of Peaky Blinders.
