The Unesco World Heritage Site, Saltaire has been transformed for a new film in Yorkshire. The new BBC production is written by Yorkshireman, Alan Bennet, whose known for the likes of the Talking Heads series and hit play& film History Boys amongst many others.

Saltaire, located near Bradford, is has been transformed for filming of the period piece known as The Choral. The film will be set in 1916 and tells the story of a community that lost its male choristers to WWI. Teenagers recruited by the choirmaster, discover the joys of singing in the face of their imminent conscription, according to the BBC.

The film “explores the humour and humanity at the heart of a community facing an uncertain future” and is directed by Nicholas Hytner. Shopfronts and streets were given a makeover for filming turning the model village of Saltaire into fictional village of Ramsden.

A charming model village in West Yorkshire built back in 1853, the quaint destination is dotted with sandy stone houses, which were originally built to house workers in the Victorian era.

Pictures show extras dressed up in old-fashioned clothing setting the scene with men dressed in brass band uniform with instruments and all. There was also men in soldier uniform from world war making the place really feel authentic.

Men riding horses can be seen as well with crew in high-viz jackets orchestrating the whole thing. It’s great to see behind the camera when shoots like this are taking place.

Saltaire makes a beautiful backdrop for the photographs, so we can’t imagine how great the film is going to look.
