Sean Bean is set to star alongside Daniel Day-Lewis in Anemone, his highly anticipated return after eight years in retirement. A special moment for sure. The iconic Oscar-winning actor co-wrote the film with his director son, Ronan Day-Lewis.
A first-look photo of the film, which is set in the North of England, perfect for Sean Bean, has been released. Details surrounding the film are limited, but the project from Focus Features is set to have its world premiere at the New York Film Festival, kicking off 26th September and running through 13th October.
The synopsis for Anemone describes it as a family drama about lives being undone by seemingly irreconcilable legacies of political and personal violence. It follows Anemone, played by Sean Bean, a middle-aged man, who sets out from his home into the woods to reconnect with his ‘estranged hermit brother’, played by Daniel Day-Lewis.
The pair are bonded by a mysterious, complicated past, and shares a fraught and tender relationship shattered by an event that happened decades ago. Described as an ’emotional powerhouse’

Alongside Bean and Day-Lewis will be Samuel Bottomley, Safia Oakley-Green, and Samantha Morton also appear. Day-Lewis and Bean were spotted last September in Manchester filming scenes for the film.
Sean Bean recently starred in BBC drama This City Is Ours and was cast as the Sheriff of Nottingham in an upcoming Robin Hood TV series for MGM+, starring alongside Jack Patten. Robin Hood is described as a sweeping romantic adventure that brings historical authenticity, psychological depth and heightened focus on Rob and Marian’s relationship.
The actress set to play Robin Hood’s love interest is Lauren McQueen from Apple TV’s Masters of the Air, and Hollyoaks will play Marian in the upcoming series, Deadline reports.
There’s no UK release date yet for Anemone, but we’ll share the details as soon as they’re confirmed.
