And, whilst we love those big long hikes, we want to get people out of their houses, away from hibernation and enjoying nature. And, it’s that time of year when spring rears its beautiful face, and the wildflowers start littering the sides of the road as well as these country lanes. This season brings your senses back to life with beautiful blossoms and fresh air, renewing the world around us.

1. Farndale Daffodil Walk

A place that can only be described as a pocket of serotonin nestled within the stunning North York Moors, Farndale – or Daffodil Valley, as it’s known – finds itself completely carpeted with happy-hued daffodils every single spring, providing an unbeatable landscape that can’t be found anywhere else.

The scenery is so spectacular, in fact, that it has become a famous walking route, with sights of yellow blooms at every turn, trailing alongside the peaceful River Dove. 2. Roseberry Topping

One of the best places in Yorkshire to see bluebells, Newton Wood’s floor becomes a spectacular violet carpet of floral colour that will leave you mesmerised. It’s tough old walk from the bottom to the top, but after a cold, damp winter, we think it’s the perfect place to start. Plus there is a lovely pub at the bottom meaning you can finish with the perfect reward – a nice cold pint.

Known as Yorkshire’s own Matterhorn, Roseberry Topping is a striking part of the North York Moors landscape, offering breathtaking views of the Yorkshire moors, the coast from afar, and Teeside at the Peak, which is 320 metres high.

3. Millington Woods

Locals will be happy to know that this little gem is on the doorstep of Ilkley. It offers panoramic views across the Wharfe Valley, beautiful woodland, and abundant wildlife. When the bluebells are out in blossom, it’s quite the walk to get stuck into this weekend. With the sun shining through onto the forest floor and the wonderfully lush purple carpet of bluebells it definitely earns its place in the top spring walks in Yorkshire.

4. Hardcastle Crags

A spectacular wooded valley with 19th-century Gibson Mill at its heart, Hardcastle Crags is a beauty spot in the South Pennines with more than 400 acres of unspoilt woodland. There are 15 miles of footpaths to explore through the woodland and wider countryside, with plenty of beautiful spots and wildlife to discover along the way, especially the bluebells carpeting its ancient woodland.

5. Flamborough Head

A coastal walk with towering white cliffs, sea stacks, and views of nesting seabirds. In spring, puffins return to the cliffs, making it a great spot for wildlife lovers. Near Bridlington, where you can head for some classic seaside fun afterwards, Flamborough is a wonderful spring venture, and the birds are coming in to nest in the spring, so you can enjoy the wildlife like no other. Plus, it’s one of the best places to see Puffins in the country.

The Huggate Poetry Walk is one of the most picturesque routes in East Yorkshire, trailing through the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds and its stunning dry valleys. At the centre of the walk sits one of the Angus Ross poetry benches, where visitors can pause, admire the sweeping valley views, and take a moment to read some poetry.
