Like you needed an excuse to pop t'pub!

If there’s one thing we know best in Yorkshire, it’s the pub – and now a Yorkshire pub has been named the fourth best in the UK, with three others joining Estrella Damm’s Top 50 Gastropubs in the country.

Coming in at fourth place in Estrella Damm’s list, The Star Inn near Helmsley is a cosy Yorkshire pub, serving up “modern Yorkshire” food. The pub itself is situated just on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors in a beautiful thatched inn and even holds a Michelin star for its delicious food.

The Gastropub is a firm favourite with those who know their stuff and has a variety of menus available to choose from, with dishes such as North Sea Monkfish Tail, Yorkshire Dales Galloway beef tartare, locally-sourced winter roots lasagne and much more. The restaurant caters for meat-eaters, vegetarians and vegans, with full menus for each preference. Their best known dish, however, is their seared foie gras with rich black pudding.

Set in a small hamlet just six miles from Skipton, The Angel at Hetton is right in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales – a truly beautiful landscape for a truly beautiful hotel. The Angel Inn’s Michelin star gastropub is often considered the UK’s first and offers up a relaxing, cosy setting for any guest who walks through it’s doors.

The vegetarian menu is given just as much love as the traditional menu, with highlights such as braised lamb, Yorkshire partridge and pumpkin tatin. The dessert menu is also a treat in itself, with delicious plates such as banana parfait and pear tatin. Did we mention they do Sunday lunch too?

Another Michelin star entry, The Pipe and Glass Inn serves up hearty portions of delicious, British pub food and sits in the heart of East Yorkshire – surrounded by small, traditional villages.

Menu highlights include slow-cooked crispy shoulder of lamb, Yorkshire game and Cheddar ‘rarebit’, while the desserts sit in a league of their own. Think puddings like liquorice panna cotta, baked dark chocolate ‘millionaire’ pudding and white chocolate and cranberry bread and butter pudding. Delish! The pub is also popular for its extensive wine list and has a cosy traditional pub setting, as you’d expect from Yorkshire!

Estrella Damm loved the pub so much, they said: “The Pipe & Glass’s charm isn’t just that you’ll want to come back, it’s that you won’t want to leave.”

Shibden Mill Inn, Halifax (#41)

The only West Yorkshire entry on the list, Shibden Mill Inn exudes traditional pub vibes – with a cosy fireplace and traditional decor throughout.

The 17th century pub is set in Fold, Halifax, and tucked away in the valley of Shibden. It really is a picturesque place! In inn has nine menus on offer, including breakfast, afternoon tea, a la carte, Sunday lunch and tasting and each of them is perfectly curated. Highlights include Shibden Ale sausage roll, puffed cod skins and baked cheddar with ale bread, and their Sunday lunches look unbelievable.
