This Yorkshire Pub Named Best In The UK

One of Yorkshire’s pub that is nestled in the North York Moors was named in the best pubs to visit in the UK for 2024, by the National Geographic.

The pub in question was the quaint Birch Hall Inn that’s located in Beck Hole in the North York Moors. The pub dates back to the 1600, and is also the smallest in Yorkshire as well.

It is made up of a couple of small bars and a sweet shop in the middle and is popular with holidaymakers and hikers. It’s found 10 miles away from Whitby and is well worth a visit.

Featuring 10th in the list, the National Geographic wrote: “Nestled in the spectacular North York Moors National Park, this eccentric, uplifting idyll of an inn is the smallest pub in Yorkshire.

“Consisting of two taverns separated by an abundantly stocked, old-fashioned sweet shop, it’s where hikers and holidaymakers bump elbows as they enjoy a well-maintained range of ales served alongside pork pies and pickles, stotties and its well-known ‘beer cake’. There’s no wi-fi and its cash only. It’s brilliant.”

It’s a well-known hangout for pub aficionados, and it’s well-known for its eccentricities. In essence, we’re talking about two age-old taverns, one with a fully stocked sweet shop in the centre and the other with a terrace garden out back, pouring a handful of good ales to hikers, locals, and in-the-know visitors.

The dark wood-beamed interior transports you into the past with a tiny serving hatch and old-fashioned black-and-white photos adorning the walls.

The rickety old wooden seats and the rest of the aesthetic gives your the feeling that you’re in a Bronte novel and a horse and carriage is about to pull up with some damsel in distress.
