Following plenty of years of success, Thor’s Tipi has become a festive institution in York – so much so, in fact, that we now have multiple bars popping up in both Leeds and York every single year.
Announcing their grand return for this winter, the organisers have revealed that the Principal Hotel tipi will be back this November, alongside the new addition of Leeds, which officially launched last year.

Posting to Instagram, they wrote: “We can’t wait any longer… Introducing the first Winter THOR’S location 😆🖤 YORK, we’re coming for you and we’re SO excited to be back in our hometown again! Returning at the Principal Hotel Gardens, opening Friday 11th November 🎄🕺🪩
“About as festive as it gets, with shots on skis, boozy hot chocolate, cocktails by log fires, cosy twinkly lights, delicious sharing feasts by @yuzu_streetfood , served on snowboards and some special surprises along the way 🙌🏼🎪💫⛔️ ★🍚🥢🏂”
Thor’s Tipi also welcomed Yuzu Street Food last Christmas, which was a huge hit among Asian food lovers (so much so we’ve been seeking out their bao buns in Pocklington ever since!).
In addition to Yuzu’s fantastic Korean-inspired grub, guests can also expect tons of festive drinks, including mulled wine, hot apple punch and, of course, boozy hot chocolates elevated with Baileys and other delights.

Thor’s also offers a range of cocktails to be enjoyed, which last year included the Alpine Ice Tea made up of Moose Alpine Spirit, lemon sugarcane and iced tea, and the Ferrero Frosty with salted caramel vodka, hazelnut liqueur and chocolate milk.
Shots are served on skis for the extra alpine factor, while Yuzu will be serving platters on snowboards to help get into the winter spirit.

The tipis are designed to emulate the cosy Alpine vibe, making for the perfect place to warm up after pottering around York’s famous Christmas market.
Seats are angled around an open fireplace (which is naturally, a very popular spot), while the tipi itself offers shelter and warmth from the elements.

Thor’s has also announced their grand return to Leeds city centre, with not one, but two tipi’s taking over the city this year. Guests will be able to enjoy the classic tipi experience over at Victoria Gardens this year, while on Briggate, organisers will bring a brand new experience called the Winter Garden, which will consist of a huge clear-walled tent decorated in thousands of twinkling fairy lights and glittering forests of trees.
You can book a table at Thor’s Tipi York Principal now (even pooches are welcome!). It’s expected that Thor’s Tipi in Leeds will return to the Headrow, where it was located last year.
Thor’s has become so popular, the team rebranded as the Thor’s Orangery over the summer months, bringing summery, Mediterranian vibes to the Viking city.
Thor’s Solast also returned to the Principal Hotel, where guests could enjoy summery, festival vibes with refreshing cocktails, cold beers and plenty of sunshine.
