Friday is tomorrow, which means one thing… Chippy Tea. And, if you’re lucky enough to live near one of these three Yorkshire chippies, you could be eating some of the best in the UK.
That’s right! Three Yorkshire fish & chips shops have been nominated for the National Fish & Chip Awards 2023 – which is no surprise to us of course.
The three chippies have been included in a shortlist of 40 establishments for the Fish & Chip Takeaway of the Year category.

Considering the range of fantastic fish & chip shops we have in Yorkshire, it’s a real honour to be named as one of the shortlisted candidates.
Fish & chip shops are chosen through a range of criteria such as high levels of knowledge of the fish and chip industry, customer service skills, environmental consideration and sustainably good practices.
Two of the chippies named in the list were from the Leeds area and included The Bearded Sailer, who was visited by Rate My Takeaway’s Danny Malin, and can be found in Pudsey and Oceans in the Leeds Crossgates area.

Along with the two Leeds candidates was The Fish Bank in Sherburn-in-Elmet in the North York Moors National Park region.
Andrew Crook, President of The National Federation of Fish Friers said: “Being able to announce the top 40 finalists for this category is an absolute pleasure. It is no secret that the industry is facing some challenges.
“That said, this industry is built upon British stoicism. And with spirit and determination, we are committed to supporting our members and seeing through tough times. We cannot wait to celebrate at the awards ceremony in February 2023.”
Winners will be announced in that big smoke London town at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge. We are rooting for all three chips to take home the crispy gold battered award.
