Autumn brings to mind many things: woodland walks, cosy coffee shops, farms and farm shops with their PYO pumpkin offerings, and more. For us, the seaside is the perfect autumn spot. You may think we’re crazy, but nothing beats a brisk dog walk on the beach.
It turns out we aren’t the only ones, as JoJo Maman Bébé, a baby clothing company, has conducted research on the best family-friendly beaches in the UK, with Yorkshire’s beaches named the best on offer. Autumn visits have their benefits, with fewer crowds allowing you to really explore a place.
If you’re considering a beach visit this October half-term, look no further than Whitby and Scarborough, which were named first and third, respectively, on the list. They beat out the likes of Brighton and Cornwall for the top spots.

JoJo Maman Bébé analysed the average rating and number of reviews on Google Maps to calculate a beach score, as well as looking at proximity to cities. Whitby took the top spot with a score of 98, while Scarborough came third with a score of 91.6.
Scarborough was pipped to the top by its neighbour Whitby, which has long reigned as one of the most visited resorts in the country. Not only that, but Scarborough was actually the very first seaside resort in Britain, first attracting aristocrats to the famous Scarborough Spa in the early 17th century.
