Yorkshire City Crowned One Of The UK’s Most Romantic City Breaks

The North Yorkshire historic city of York has been named in the top ten most romantic cities across the UK by a new study about the best places for couples to head this year.

New research into the top 10 most romantic city break destinations in the UK has included York as one of its top recommended places to visit this year.

Luggage storage site Bounce revealed that York was voted the second most romantic city in the UK beating out some stiff competition along the way.

It’s not surprising with its romantic riverside walks along the River Ouse, and its range of riverside bars and restaurants where you can enjoy cocktails with a view.

To determine which cities were the most romantic a range of factors were taken into account and scored out of ten. York scored a 7.69 to make it into second place in the UK.

Bounce noted the: “The charming buildings and spectacular Gothic cathedral make this city the perfect choice for a romantic break with your other half. The city is also the birthplace of W. H. Auden, who famously penned poems about love, adding to the city’s romantic offerings.

“The city is home to 55 hotels that are great for couples, which is 1.6 per km2, the second highest on this list. York is furthermore the third highest-rated city for three other factors, its romantic restaurants, activities, and Google search interest.”

York hotels were definitely on the more pricey side of the but proved popular with over 3450 annual Google searches. The historic city was beaten out by Brighton for the first place spot which took the top spot due to its number of romantic restaurants and its affordability.

It seems people would much rather have a trip to the seaside with its music and art scene rather than take a walk around the cobbled streets of York and enjoy a drink in one of its oldest pubs.

Rounding out the top five are Edinburgh, Bath, and Canterbury.
