There’s nowt better than a god ol’ pie this time of year. And one of Yorkshire’s top pie-makers has been named among the best food and drink producers across the globe. Earning a three-star rating from Great Taste Award for their steak and kidney pie.
Yorkshire Handmade Pies, based in Ripon, were pitted against over 14,000 products in a competition which is a thorough blind judging process in which only 241 products from across the world are awarded a three-star accolade. And, their Steak and Kidney pie made the cut (pardon the pun).

This accreditation scheme, organised by the Guild of Fine Food, sees 10,000 products vying to win a coveted one-, two- or even three-star award. Every entry is put through a rigourous judging process manned by industry experts.

Not only did they win an award for their steak and kidney, but they also gained two stars for their steak and black pudding along with their Yorkshire samosa pies and gained a one-star for their mushroom and ale and steak and ale pies.

Yorkshire Handmade Pies founder James Sturdy: “We are over the moon. So fantastic for the team to be recognised for all their hard work. Five awards is a seriously impressive haul – it’s hard to get any awards so five is really good, especially the 3-star one.
“We’re so proud of our local area and of representing Yorkshire’s finest produce on an international stage. Great Taste is the most recognised accolade in the food and drink world. For independent producers like Yorkshire Handmade Pies it really means a huge amount to be recognised.”

The company prides itself on showcasing local Yorkshire ingredients and its relationship with Yorkshire farmers and producers with a farm-to-fork ethos. This works perfectly for the pie company as they have the Yorkshire Dales and Morn York Moors on their doorstep.
The Yorkshire Handmade Pies company was inspired by James Sturdy’s grandfather who made pies for the village shop nearly a century ago the methods which he uses to this day.
