First-look Images Released For Bilingual BBC Thriller ‘Reunion’ Filmed In Sheffield

The BBC has released first-look images of an upcoming bilingual revenge thriller filmed in and around Sheffield. The brand-new four-part thriller Reunion features both British Sign Language (BSL) and spoken English.

The sneak peek images for the new BBC drama feature Anne-Marie Duff from Bad Sister, Rose Ayling-Ellis from Eastenders, Matthew Gurney from Name Me Lawand, and Rivals star Lara Peake. As well as being filmed in Sheffield the show was produced by Sheffield-based Warp Films and written by Sheffield-born deaf writer William Mager.

The emotional series has the striking landscape of Sheffield and the Peak District with images offering a glimpse of the lead cast in their roles. The selection showcases the powerful drama and use of BSL throughout the series.

Anne-Marie Duff, who had a stirring performance in The Salisbury Poisonings stars as Christine, who is desperate to find Brennan, played by Gurney, a deaf man determined to write his wrongs. Duff’s character wants to get to the truth about what he did, whilst Rose Ayling-Ellis plays her daughter Miri.

The synopsis for the new BBC thriller, Reunion says it’s a revenge and redemption story following the “journey of Daniel Brennan, played by Matthew Gurney (Name Me Lawand, Theatre Ad Infinium), a deaf man determined to right his wrongs while unravelling the truth behind the events that led him to prison.

“Brennan embodies the struggle of a man caught between two worlds, unable to fully integrate into the hearing world and shunned by his closest friends and the wider deaf community following his heinous crime. Amidst this isolation, Brennan’s only meaningful relationship is with his estranged daughter Carly, played by Lara Peake (How to Have Sex, Rivals), who he has not had any contact with since his arrest over a decade ago.”

Images released for BBC’s Reunion show some of the scenes demonstrating the BSL use throughout the series, which is not only refreshing but an important step. If you’d like to see this series keep an eye out for a release date for BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
