The North York Moors is often overlooked in favour of its ‘big sister’ National Park, the Yorkshire Dales, but there’s something so uniquely charming about its rugged landscape – and if you haven’t visited yet, today’s news will give you a good reason to.
Announcing the return of the Moorsbus, locals and visitors alike can now take advantage of the seasonal bus service, which returns for 2025 with new and improved connectivity.
Operating from 3rd May until 28th September, the service offers a car-free way to enjoy the beautiful National Park, with popular stops along the way including Castle Howard, Rievaulx Abbey, Helmsley and Great Ayton.

Operated as a not-for-profit run by volunteers, the game-changing service is an incredible initiative to help support local businesses and those looking to enjoy the National Park – not only helping to decrease the number of cars travelling around the beauty spot, but offering fantastic connectivity across some of the North York Moors most popular destinations.
The service offers seven routes, with some running as far as Hull, York, Thirsk and Stockton – helping those who may usually be unable to travel to the National Park.

The network also helps travellers connect with other services, such as the North York Moors Railway and the 128 service, which operates between Helmsley and Scarborough.
The buses use existing bus stops throughout the National Park, however, those wishing to use the service are advised to simply flag down a bus, whose driver will pull over somewhere safe to allow you on.
There’s an array of fares available, including a £3 cap on single fares, and rover tickets ranging from £10 per adult to £15 per family (2x adults and up to 4x children). Rover tickets can also be used on other services, including the East Yorkshire 128, Arriva services X4, 5, 81 and X93, and the Reliance 31X.
The M6 service will run Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays, with all other services operating on Sundays and Bank Holidays. The service does not run on weekdays.
