New ITV Heist Drama Starring Suranne Jones And Jodie Whittaker Announced

ITV announced that Surrane Jones and Jodie Whittaker will feature in a new heist drama, Frauds, in which the pair plays two ‘skilled confidence tricksters’ separated by a 10-year prison sentence. It’s got us at The Yorkshireman very excited.

The new ITV drama will be a six-part series and has recently begun filming in Spain. It’ll be directed by Giulia Gandini known for The SplitShetland and produced by Pat Tookey-Dickson known for Maryland1899, and Ghosts. The ITV series, Frauds was created by Suranne Jones and Anne-Marie O’Connor. O’Connor, whose previous works include Maryland on writing duty.

Both are beloved by Yorkshire folk, Suranne Jones for her iconic role as Anne Lister in Gentleman Jack created by Sally Wainwright which was sadly cancelled back in 2022 and Jodie Whittaker for doing Yorkshire proud heralding from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. Whittaker was especially good in the second series of BBC’s Time, one of her first roles after portraying the iconic Dr Who for a number of years.

The synopsis for the new series has Whittaker’s character Sam who has accepted a ‘life of quiet anonymity in the hills of Southern Spain’, and Jones’ character Bert who has dreams of one last score to settle after ‘the last decade in a Spanish prison cell’ leaves her ‘with a burning desire to pull off one final job that will prove her worth…’

First-look images were recently released for a new Netflix drama starring Whittaker. The series named Toxic Town will tell the story of the Corby Toxic Waste Case, which is regarded as the UK’s biggest environmental scandal.

Surrane Jones said: “Working on Frauds with Anne-Marie and Monumental for the last two years has been a wild ride. We took the idea of toxic female friendship and turned it on its head to give the heist genre an emotional heartbeat. I have always wanted to work with Jodie, and now I am. I hope you love Bert and Sam and all they get up to as much as we do.”

Helen Ziegler, the Senior Drama Commissioning Editor who is overseeing production, has said: “We are delighted to be working with Suranne, Anne-Marie and the brilliant team at Monumental on their unique take on a heist show.

“At its heart, this is a story of a complex, surprising friendship, which asks if Sam and Bert can pull together for one last job, or whether the past will derail them. Suranne and Jodie are two incredible actors and it’ll be thrilling to see what they bring to the central characters.”

A release date for ITV’s new crime drama Frauds is currently unavailable, but we’ll keep you up to date with any new revelations.
