Police Confiscate Over 200 Bottles Of Alcohol At North Yorkshire Beauty Spot

As the UK was hit with its hottest ever heatwave, many revellers took to enjoying the summer sun. But, police say some revellers took it too far with Richmond falls looking more “like a Ibiza nightclub.

A string of antisocial behaviours besieged the town of Richmond as police confiscated hundreds of bottles & cans of alcohol including beer, cider, vodka and other spirits and several powerful sound systems including one that was 3ft tall that was causing a disturbance in the area.

As well as spirits, canisters of nitrous oxide, which can be used to get high were also confiscated and will be destroyed.

Officers dispersed revellers from the riverside and made an arrest after a disturbance. Residents displayed concern about the behaviour on England’s hottest ever day.

Along with the antisocial behaviour, seven barbecues were extinguished which we’ve seen can cause destruction in hot dry weather.

Richmondshire Inspector Martin Metcalfe said: “Residents quite rightly don’t want their town to be used like a Ibiza nightclub and we’re doing something about it.

“As temperatures soared well into the 30s yesterday and hundreds congregated at Richmond Falls, my team and I took action to prevent crime and antisocial behaviour as well as all the litter and mess this leaves behind.”

Insp Metcalfe added: “We simply will not tolerate antisocial behaviour, which is often committed by large groups who travel in from other areas and behave with no respect for the community they’re visiting. And yesterday we used public space legislation to tackle it.

“The feedback from Richmond residents yesterday was extremely positive, and while we can’t have a permanent presence in any one place I can assure residents there will be many more results like this throughout the summer.

“My message to those visiting any of North Yorkshire’s communities this summer is simple – if you can’t behave respectfully by complying with the law, we will use the laws at our disposal to ensure you do.”

It’s said that some people travelled from as far as County Durham and Middlesborough to enjoy the Ibiza-esque antic in Richmond.
