Poole’s Cavern in the Peak District has been recognised as one of the best destinations in the world to visit, according to Tripadvisor’s Traveller’s Choice Awards for 2024. Its limestone caves attract thousands of visitors from all over the world to admire their beauty.

When visiting, you can explore the caves, admiring the crystal stalactites that have been created and sat in the cave for millions of years. The caves have had some famous visitors, including Mary Stuart, better known as Mary Queen of Scots, who reportedly visited in 1582.

The Tripadvisor award is based on genuine feedback from community members who have listed it as a top destination and given first-hand reviews over the past year. But what can you expect when you visit these incredible caves?

You can enjoy a 45-minute guided tour through the underground passages, with the caves open daily. Afterwards, you can visit the shop and café for a well-earned snack and a drink.

Dave Green, CEO of Buxton Civic Association, said: “Thank you to all our visitors and reviewers for their unwavering support and kind words. We are honoured to be included among travellers’ favourites this year.

“This recognition is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our staff, who continuously strive to provide an exceptional experience for everyone who visits Poole’s Cavern and Buxton Country Park.

“Visits to Poole’s Cavern contribute to the essential environmental and heritage conservation work that Buxton Civic Association undertake in Buxton, including managing 160 acres of woodland. We are thrilled to be recognised by Tripadvisor and will continue our commitment to preserving and showcasing this beautiful destination for all to enjoy.”
