This Village Has Been Named The Most Beautiful In The Yorkshire Dales

The Yorkshire Dales is one of our favourite parts of the world. You can keep the Maldives, Seychelles and the south of France. Give us a walk through the Dales most dramatic landscapes any time of year – and we are happy bunnies. Speaking of, the Yorkshire Dales tourism board as named the tiny village of Malham as the most spectacular, according to The Express – and we couldn’t agree more.

Home to the most amazing circular walk that takes in waterfalls, dramatic landscapes and… sheep. Yes, you can’t go to the Dales without happening upon the fluffy sheep grazing. Malham is home to the dramatic limestone cliffs where the iconic Harry Potter scene from the Deathly Hallows was filmed.

Looking out over the rest of Yorkshire, it really is amazing. The Yorkshire Dales tourism board has said that Malham is “one of the most spectacular and most popular villages” in the dales with in no small part of the limestone views.

The amazing Malham Cove is just a short walk from the village centre. You are greeted by the huge curving amphitheatre-shaped cliff formation.

The popular circular walk takes you first east towards Janet’s Foss waterfall, tucked away in a small woodland. It’s the perfect spot for a bit of wild swimming – or a paddle. Home of the queen of the fairies , Janet, there is a sense of mystery about the spot that is well worth experiencing.

Next, you go back to the road and follow it along until you come back to the next waterfall on the walk, Gordale Scar. Some visitors like to climb up the waterfall – or you can head back up the hill towards the limestone cliffs of Malham Cove.

The walk is about 4-miles long and can be extended to 7-miles for those who’d like to head to see Malham Tarn.

Back in the small village there is a few pubs, cafes and restaurants to visit. With our favourite being Beck Hall, which recently turned into a fully vegan restaurant. Another nice spot is The Listers Arms – a proper traditional pub serving up real ale and classic pub grub.
