Two Yorkshire Spots Named In Top 10 Best Sunday Walks With Roasts In UK

If a walk doesn’t end up at a pub, did you really go on a walk? That drink after a hike is up there as one of the most rewarding out there – add a roast to that, and you’ve got the perfect Sunday. And two spots in Yorkshire have featured in a list of the top 10 best Sunday walks with a roast in the UK. Add these to your list, and you’ll be in for a delightful slow Sunday.

GO Outdoors experts have done all the legwork for you, having analysed mapping data, review ratings, and AllTrails reviews to create the ultimate Sunday walks in the UK, all finishing with a great Sunday lunch spot.

Discussing the list reasoning behind the walks and roast, travel experts said: “There’s a reason the two go hand in hand. A few hours outside gives you the chance to slow down, reset, and make the most of nature, with the promise of a warming meal at the end. It’s a combination that works every time, but some routes give a better experience than others.”

Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal Walk

In second place in the list is the Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal Walk, which finishes at the Royal Oak pub. The loop passes along the River Skell through the parkland and the landscaped water gardens of Studley Royal and Fountains Abbey. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you’re not going to find walks much more beautiful than this curated landscape.

The walk ends in Ripon at The Royal Oak, an 18th-century coaching inn at the centre of the city; a review of the Sunday roast reads “the best Sunday lunch out we have had in a long time,” while another describes it as a “great Sunday roast.”

Malham Cove and Gordale Scar Circular

Next, sneaking in 10th place, is a walk we are very familiar with and a pub we’ve spent many an hour in: the Malham Cove circular. Probably one of the most beautiful spots in Yorkshire. The walk takes in several breathtaking landscapes in just a short space of time. These include Janet’s Foss waterfall, which is like something pulled straight from a fairy tale. Next is Gordale Scar, an awesome hidden gorge and finishing with the limestone pavement of Malham Cove with its panoramic views across the Dales.

The walk ends at the Lister Arms, a quintessential Dales pub with flagstone floors, a huge wood-burning fire and ancient wooden beams. We’ve not had a bad meal here, so we can vouch this one is an absolute must for any Dales lovers.
