York Christmas Markets kicked off this week – and it’s proven quite popular with the first weekend packed full of visitors enjoying the festive scenes. If you’re still deciding whether to go or not maybe Which? naming it one of the top Christmas markets in the UK might just sweeten the deal.
Usually made up of stunning chalets made up of independent producers of crafts and other such gifts they offer a unique opportunity to pick out the perfect gift for a loved one. Not only that but you can also enjoy all the tasty treats that are on offer.
Which picked eight of the best Christmas markets in the UK based on the cities that were rated highest in its best UK cities survey of more than 4,000 visitors. Each other has a Christmas market that has great food & drink, and cultural attractions scoring at least four out of five in those categories.

York Christmas Market takes place from the 14th November to 22nd December and is located on Parliament Street in the city centre. It’s free to visit, so you can go and enjoy the festivities and festive spirit at the least.
But, what makes York Christmas market so good, according to Which?
First of all, it scored five stars for cultural sights thanks to the likes of Jorvik Viking Centre, the National Railway Museum and of course the historical city itself.
York’s St Nicholas Fair has been going for over 30 years and is a great place for unique gifts from local vendors or selling their offerings in quaint alpine chalets with twinkling lights all lined up on Parliament Street and St Sampson’s Square.
It offers help to those with limited mobility and offers a designated quiet shopping time between 9am and 12pm with a music-free experience. The market also priorities traders with eco-friendly and ethical practices and materials.
It’s not just the markets that look great in the festive time of year. York’s Stonegate, Snicklways and Minster all prove to be amazing spots to take in the festivities.
