This Yorkshire City Has Been Named In Top 10 Most Liveable Cities In The Coutry

York has been recognised as one of the top cities to live and work in the UK, according to a recent ranking published by The Telegraph. The historic city secured seventh place in the list of the most “liveable” cities in the country. Notably, it is the only city from northern England to make it into the top 10.

Plymouth claimed the top spot as the best city in Britain, while major cities such as London, Manchester, and Birmingham were ranked much lower. York was highlighted as a city that improved on income distribution and jobs.

The study, conducted by PwC, evaluated cities based on 12 key factors, including health, income, employment opportunities, safety, education, work-life balance, housing, commuting times, income equality, the retail environment, and business start-up potential.

The research also highlights a growing disparity across the UK, driven by unequal access to resources and opportunities in different regions. This imbalance is particularly reflected in the rankings, where smaller cities like York outshine larger metropolitan areas known for their economic influence.

York’s strong performance in areas such as safety, work-life balance, and job opportunities positions it as one of the most desirable places to live in the UK.

Rachel Taylor, of PwC, said: “Raising prosperity across the UK is needed more than ever as we continue to see growing inequality in housing, jobs and education. There is an increasing imbalance within and between neighbourhoods, which is being driven by disparities in access to quality education, jobs and housing.

“This is felt not only across different regions, but also between people living within the same postcodes in cities.”
