Yorkshire Hosepipe Ban To Last ‘Until Winter’, Yorkshire Water Says

2025’s first hosepipe ban in the UK has officially come into place, with Yorkshire residents urged to stop using their hosepipes as reservoir levels plummet. And now, Yorkshire Water advises it could last until winter.

Implemented after months of dry weather, which saw the UK have its warmest and sunniest spring on record, the ban came into place just days ago and requires residents in Yorkshire to stop using hosepipes for watering their gardens, washing their cars or for any other activities.

The Environmental Agency officially declared a drought in Yorkshire just last month. The ban is the first regional ban in the country this year.

Speaking to BBC 5 Live, Nicola Shaw, chief executive of Yorkshire Water said: “I expect it to last until the winter as that is when the reservoirs will have recharged.”

It was also revealed that Yorkshire only had 15cm of rainfall between February and June, which is less than half of what would be expected in an average year.

Residents are advised to use buckets and watering cans instead of hosepipes to help reduce water wastage. Bill payers continue to raise frustrations with the supplier, as reported leaks across the country remain unchecked. Yorkshire Water loses about 21% of its water supply to leakage.
