Yorkshire does pubs properly. They are cornerstones of communities that have brought people together for centuries. It’s a place where all men are equal. And, when put together properly, pubs act as a place where you can chat for hours with friends and strangers alike. Setting the world to rights is what pubs are for.
This year’s National Pub and Bar Awards have been announced. Each year they pick the best pub in the 94 counties across the UK. Now, we always take these with a pinch of salt as everything is to someone else’s taste. But it’s a nice idea for a bit of inspiration. And, this year’s winner for Yorkshire and the Humber is a lovely little boozer.

In Yorkshire and the Humber, this year’s top prize went to The Woolly Sheep Inn, Skipton, an award-winning dog-friendly inn that boasts the full range of Yorkshire’s Timothy Taylor’s cask ales along with a tasty menu of home-cooked favourites with a modern twist. It’s a pub full of character and a well-deserved winner.
It’s big on its food, with locally-sourced produce offering from farm to plate grub. We are talking chef signatures as well as all the pub classics from fish & chips, sausage and mash to Wensleydale gammon. All washed down with real ales. What more could you want?

The pub has some fantastic rooms and is ideally located on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. So, why not make a weekend of it, as it is the ideal spot to use as a base to venture off to the likes of Malham Cove and Bolton Abbey. Both top spots to visit when you head to the stunning national park.
