Filming Locations For Netflix Drama ‘Toxic Town’ Filmed In North Featuring Jodie Whittaker

Yorkshire’s own Jodie Whittaker, known for being Doctor Who and more recently the BBC drama Time, appears in brand new series Toxic Town available on Netflix now. The drama will tell the story of the Corby Toxic Waste Case, which is regarded as the UK’s biggest environmental scandal.

The gritty drama, Toxic Towntells the story of the town’s fight for justice after 19 children were born with various deformities as a result of a botched steelworks cleanup. The show is already climbing the streaming charts, and set around the infamous Corby poisonings of the 1970s, much of the filming for the four-part drama, took place in the North West.

Toxic Town tells the story of four mothers who fought for justice for over a decade after 19 children were born with various deformities as a result of a botched steelworks cleanup. Families affected made pleas to Corby Council and even took them to the High Court in a bid for them to take accountability. Jodie will play the role of Susan McIntyre, one of the mums affected by the scandal. Filming began last April in Cheshire.

Netflix’s Toxic Town is produced by the team behind Black Mirror, filming locations include Bolton, Liverpool and across the East Midlands, whilst it’s set in the Northamptonshire town. Jack Thorne, who wrote the series, admitted he was unaware of the case until it was brought to him. Speaking to Netflix’s Tudum he said: “I didn’t know the story, I’d never heard of the people involved, and I’d never heard of the case until it was brought to me. It had within it a lot of drama, whether it’s the story of the trial itself, or whether it’s the way that these women got together and battled together.

He continued: “The more you look into it, the more complicated it all becomes. I’ve done legal dramas before, but this one… being taken through the actual truth of it and seeing the journey that they had to go on in order to prove this, I found very surprising and shocking.”

Alongside Yorkshire’s own Jodie Whittaker who plays Susan McIntyre you’ll find Aimee Lou Wood as Tracey Taylor, Claudia Jessie as Maggie Mahon, and Robert Carlyle, Brendan Coyle, and Rory Kinnear.
