Huge 30-Storey Block Of Flats Approved In Leeds City Centre

City councillors unanimously approved the revised plans for a 30-storey block of flats to be built by City Life Holdings on Springwell Road in Holbeck, Leeds. The new building will accommodate a total of 345 apartments and will replace an old two-storey commercial building near the junction of Springwell Road and Whitehall Road.

The original proposal faced concerns about the building’s height and a shortage of parking spaces. To address these issues, the height of the building was reduced by six storeys, increasing the number of parking spaces from 18 to 27. Additionally, the total number of flats was scaled down from 402 to 345. Plans for a ground-floor swimming pool were discarded, but the building will still house amenities such as a gym and a children’s play area.

Notably, the development will also feature a rooftop garden and outdoor space for residents. Families living in the area can look forward to a dedicated children’s play area as part of the new complex.

Councillor Paul Wray discussed the new scheme saying: “I’d still like more car parking. It’s still a bit low, but it’s not as ridiculous as before.

“The overall change is much better. It’s much more balanced and focused on it being a sustainable community building, rather than just something for people in their twenties and thirties. The classic idea of what a city centre resident is is changing.

“It’s something I hope all developers in the city centre start to take on board. These are long-term permanent communities now. Things like this should be the standard.”
