After months inside staring at the same walls, getting out and staying somewhere completely different sounds like the most ideal thing in the world to us at the moment. Winter has finally come to an end, and we are looking forward to getting out and exploring good ol’ Yorkshire. And, these unusual places to stay in Yorkshire are the perfect spots to enjoy this spring and summer.

So, we thought we’d find some of the quirky and oddest places to stay in Yorkshire and we’ve found some bonkers but great stays for you to enjoy a staycation in the UK this year.

1. Harry Potter Dorm Room

These quirky places to stay in Yorkshire don’t get any more magical than this unforgettable Harry Potter-inspired glamping stay. North Shire offers a slice of Hogwarts life for up to six guests with their Gryffindor Dorm room-style stay.

Sleep in single dorm beds that replicates the ones we’ve seen so many times in the films, complete with a privacy curtain and plush velvet bedding.

2. 1900s-Style Train Carriage

You’ll think you got drunk and woke up on a train with this stylish vintage train carriage stay. Set in the Yorkshire Dales you can enjoy the Flying Yorkshireman’s ultra-quiet and peaceful stay.

Gaze out over the Nidd Valley railway line, which runs through the farm, and soak in their wood-fired hot tub with a glass of bubbly – choo.

3. Whitby Lighthouse

Fancy staying in an actual lighthouse? Well, you can stay in these two cottages in Whitby that overlook the North Sea.

Both cottages sit next to the Whitby Lighthouse, which once served to guide sailors back to shore. Decorated with a beautiful nautical theme, these cottages are a great self-catering stay.

4. Hobbit House

In our list of Quirky places to stay in Yorkshire, this Hobbiton-inspired shire house near Saltburn-by-the-Sea has attention to detail like no other. Fans of Tolkien’s classic tale will be whisked into a fantasy of their dreams in this immersive stay.

The hobbit house sleeps 6 human-sized adults and is a perfect family stay. It’s a home that Bilbo himself would be proud of that is fully fitted with a luxury bathroom and kitchen.

5. TreeHouse

A luxury treehouse stay sounds like the perfect place to hide away right now. After months locked inside this luxury getaway in the North York Moors sounds like the perfect way to greet normality once more.

This dream stay is courtesy of Baxby Manor and can sleep six people. Did we mention it has a wood-burning hot tub also?

6. Mystical Gypsy Caravan

This forested space near Fountains Abbey, North Yorkshire is like a scene out of Peaky Blinders. This location has three magical gypsy old-style caravans that circle a cosy fire pit – perfect for toasting marshmallows.

Two wagons are designed for sleeping two with a third designed especially for children. You can book just one or all three depending on availability.

7. Double Decker Bus

Set near the coast in the beautiful East Yorkshire coast, this vibrant Double Decker bus is literally a bus driver’s holiday. Overlooking beautiful yellow fields of rapeseed oil, this double-decker bus is the perfect stay for families.

It has features such as the driver’s seat and other things that will make you feel like you’re on the 121 bus to Hull. I’ll have a ticket to the pub, please.

8. Iglu Hut

Surrounded by nature this farm hut in North Yorkshire is the perfect romantic retreat. Found on a quaint farm the hits are surrounded by nature and have all the things you’d need for a glamping stay.

Enjoy such things as a comfy double bed, a fridge for the wine, and a kettle for a morning brew. Enjoy the quiet of the countryside in your own eye-catching little hut.

9. A Clear Dome Under The Stars

Situated in Bedale, Camp Katur is as unique as they come, with tons of accommodation options for guests to enjoy. Options include completely see-through stargazing domes, hobbit huts, geodomes, bell tents, gnome huts, yurts and more, all comprising of luxury finishes to add more of a ‘glamping’ feel to the stay.

They all come with heating and the dome under the stars came with a chiminea outside to keep warm around the fire with some marshmallows to hand.

10. Yurtshire

Perfect for a romantic weekend away, this beautiful yurt can be found close to Fountains Abbey. You and your partner can snuggle up in the warm and comforting yurt which are decked out with double beds, futons, wood burners, and more, as well as fire pits, BBQs and seating outdoors, too.

Sitting in a peaceful meadow, guests won’t be short of tranquillity, with plenty of Yorkshire attractions on Yurtshire’s doorstep, too.

11. Hagrid-Inspired Groundsman’s Hut

Found in the North York Moors, and inspired by the Hogwarts gamekeeper, Hagrid. This cottage has all the magic of a Harry Potter movie the moment you walk through the door.

The cottage is thee interlocking circular rooms that have mismatched windows and medieval architecture that give it a real fairy tale feel. Just don’t forget your wands.

12. Off Grid 12 Bunk Barn

These secluded tree lodges in Swinton Bivouac, sleep up to seven people and are the perfect woodland retreat in the Yorkshire Dales, near Masham.

A stripped-back wooden lodge is a truly authentic and intimate place to relax with family and focus on what really matters in life. If you’re looking for quirky places to stay in Yorkshire, this off-grid lodge is the perfect way to switch off from it all.

These last three stays aren’t in Yorkshire, but they are some of the coolest things we have seen. So much so that we had to include them in our list. Since everyone will be having a staycation this year, it would be rude to miss them off.
