East Yorkshire’s city, Hull, has been getting all the press this year, with Time Out Magazine naming it one of the best places in the UK to visit in 2024, Timothy Chalamet calling it the sexiest accent, and other sources recognising how great our home city is. At the centre of it all is Humber Street, which has quickly become a foodie hotspot in Hull, and it doesn’t hurt that it sits next to the beautiful marina.
And now, a meat lover’s dream has joined the foodie revolution on the street in the form of The Smoke Room, Hull’s newest restaurant. It champions a menu of smoked meats inspired by the Deep South. Their meats are cooked low and slow, cared for by their pit master and BBQ enthusiasts using specially chosen wood to give the meat its unique flavour.

The menu is full of classics such as beef brisket coated in a signature rub, giving a delicious bark and slow-cooked to perfection; pulled pork that’s been coated with a North Carolina rub, slow smoked and shredded; and Texan BBQ ribs rubbed with Louisiana spices and soaked in a sweet, sticky BBQ sauce. And that’s just a few of the items.
Matching the beautiful menu is the newly decorated spot that has nods to the Deep South without feeling like a themed bar. Instead, it has a slick, modern feel, offering a welcoming environment fitting perfectly with Hull Marina’s food scene. A great spot to enjoy a cocktail or two, The Smoke House has a range of signature ones as well as the classics.

We couldn’t resist the beef short rib, coated in their own coffee rub and served with a fresh chimichurri; we had the Brisket Bad Boy burger too, which boasts two smashed patties, tons of beef brisket, and an authentic red-eye gravy for dipping. I can’t explain how much flavour this had – I’m still having dreams about it. It was so rich and moreish I had to lather it on everything. And if you love burgers, we’d consider this a must-try. If that wasn’t enough,
The beef rib was incredibly tender and flavourful, with perfect burnt ends that had the intense flavour of the pit smoke and were great for a bit of crunch. The meat from the short rib literally fell off the bone. And the chimichurri added a nice freshness to the rich flavours, making for the perfect combo.
